Rogério Ceni has scored more goals than any other goalkeeper.

Goals scored by goalkeepers are a rare event in football. The most prolific goalkeepers are those who take penalties or free kicks, but on occasion a goalkeeper scores when committed forward at a set piece in a last ditch effort to score a goal which would prevent his team's defeat. On rare occasions, a goalkeeper can score with a goal-kick or an otherwise regular clearance travelling the length of the pitch into the opposite goal. The record is held by the Brazilian Rogério Ceni,[1] with 83 goals, of which 36 came from the penalty spot.[2]

The first known goalscoring goalkeeper is Charlie Williams, whose long clearance resulted in a goal for Manchester City against Sunderland in April 1900.[3] In November 1999, Paraguayan José Luis Chilavert became the first goalkeeper to score a hat-trick with three penalties for Vélez Sársfield in a 6–1 victory against Ferro Carril Oeste,[4] and in the following year he and Argentine Roberto Bonano from River Plate both scored in the same Copa Mercosur match.[5]
